In April 2013, 1,500 students were introduced to skate skiing in the 11 villages making up the NANA region: Ambler, Buckland, Deering, Kiana, Kivalina, Kobuk, Kotzebue, Noatak, Noorvik, Selawik and Shungnak. In addition, NANANoridic visited White Mountain in the Bering Strait Region and Anaktuvuk Pass in the North Slope Region. NANANordic, which went to four NANA villages in its 2012 inaugural year, expects to visit 20 villages across Alaska in 2014.
NANANordic’s goal is introduce the lifetime sport of cross-country skiing to rural Alaska starting with villages in the NANA region. It takes the support of many organizations and individuals to make this unique ski program possible. Please join us on this exciting adventure as we get Alaska youth skiing across the Arctic!
